Eduard Spranger
Dr. Eduard Spranger

(1882-1963)

  • Dr. Eduard Spranger, German psychologist, wrote “Types of Men: The Psychology and Ethics of Personality” in 1928
  • He developed a way of assessing 6 core attitudes or values.
Dr. Gordon W. Allport

(1897-1967)

  • Dr. Gordon Allport, American psychologist, wrote several books including “The Nature of Personality” in 1956, “The Nature Of Prejudice”, “Becoming: Basic Considerations For A Psychology of Personality”.
    • After further work it was decided that Spranger’s “Political” Value limited the full range of attitudes, interests and values that were freedom driven and not power driven.
    • And so, the “Individualistic” or freedom value was positioned as the true value in its’ own right.
Gordon W. Allport

The 1st assessment combining the work of Humanist Psychologists Dr. Eduard Spranger & Dr. Gordon Allport regarding personality & individual values.
